State of Readiness

- Condition One: Attack is present, or imminent. The CIC is locked down and the ship's commander is on station.

- Condition Two: Threat probable, but not present.

- Condition Three: This is the "all clear" alert, returning crews to their normal, day-to-day non-combat duties after Conditions One or Two. This is normal cruising during wartime.

I study Public Relations. I deal in crises and image. Unknowingly, I've been doing this throughout my entire life. I've upheld an image of what I want people to see. Which, I gather, is a lot different of what I really am. Few people have really been able to see my inner core, the true Alex. That one true Alex which is not the wonderful, charismatic person everyone knows and loves, but, the dark, frightened, little Alex who only comes out to play when there is a chance.

She was one of the few to know this dark Alex.

Alas, she knew to much. Either she ran or I pushed her away. I may never know. I just know that she reached the limit of her patience, therefore, cutting her losses and running like hell. I've called her a few times, beckoning her to come and have a coffee and just give me a couple of minutes, but she always makes up flimsy excuses, weaker than a matchstick house in a hurricane. Who can blame her?
